Strychnin

There is a gallery that imports and exports art between USA-Europe-Japan. Special gothic experimental art from not quite yet established or recognized artists in the "world of art". Among their "family" we find names as Chet Zar, Ver Mar, Ansgar Noeth, Lukas Zpira and now recently even Banksy!

Since Yasha Young, the curator that hold all together, is one of the members of ART21 board things are happening there too. I am not surprised Banksy appeared this year!

The Strychnin is like an family, tells me Ansgar Noeth, when I visit the exhibition on one of my hundreds visits in Berlin. I always seems to been drawn to this fantastique thrilling gallery.

Ansgar Noeth told me that Strychnin travels together all over the world to set up installations.

Yasha Young tells me she doesn't even have an gallery in New York no more. I USA they found it more suitable to just set up installations where it's an interesting spot to do so.

She is kind of a marketing stylist for her artists, she is good at knowing how to introduce them to get them the best spotligth onto their carriere.
Her interest for goth, in the sense of the Edgar Allan Poe way, is striking in her choices of artists.

Its true thrilling to visit an exhibition curated by this Lady!

Synth Is Not Dead

BodyFest in  Stockholm was sold out completely. In this picture we see Spark. Photo: NineIZ

BODYFEST Kills That Rumour
There seems to be a rumour among them entreprenours of synthmusic festivals. That synth is dead. The fact they stop arranging pure synth events speaks for this. My speculation is that they feel old and quit (Tinnitus) or they want to mix in other genres of music (Arvika) since they dont realize how big this is.
Only WGT in Leipzig is still going strong.

Big audience at Bodyfest. Here watching and listening Pouppée Fabrikk. Photo: NineIZ

In Sweden the new phenomena Bodyfest is taking it from there. And they are smart enough to mix in different styles within the genre itself. The EBM and Body genre was celebrating in Stockholm this weekend at the very First BodyFest event! And it was of great success. All tickets got sold out and the crowd was very pleased all through. Even if bit tired maybe in the end. Eight hours of music on a road is a bit exhausting.

Jean-Luc de Meyer in Front 242 beholds the audience with energetic fire at BodyFest. Photo: NineIZ

Front 242 was there! As the main attraction. The band that started it all. The fathers of the genre EBM. They made a great concert and were so energetic on  stage that Jean-Luc de Meyer didn't even come out for the extra number the audience screamed forward. And I totally understands him. And so did all mine musician friends also. Wow. He really gave all at stage for us during the set. We got extras of course. They are two singers in the band, remember?

Patrick Codenys in Front 242 was the one to be interviewed this evening. Photo: NineIZ

Right before the Front 242 gig I met with Patrick Codenys and he told me I was to expect some return to the old sound of the band. And they sure gave us a cool mix, slightly and gentle updated with new samplings.
Patrick Codenys NEWS
Patrick Codenys also told me about his new side project. He is learning a new language, Dance. Yes, it is his words. Patrick Codenys is working with a Dance Company called La Zampa and make music for them. They had a very nice and spectacular gig in Toulouse this spring that got lots of attention, "Daisy Cutter". He seems very thrilled and excited about this new area. We already know he is the most innovative in the band. He is a biotechnic humanoid all through. I didn't know though that he doesn't even consider himself to be a musician, but he tells me this at our meeting backstage. He is living the technique as an artist, I  believe. His other side project Red Sniper is still going strong too, wherein he expresses through film also, among others art expressions.
Front 242 NEWS
Patrick Codenys tells me that Front 242 is soon to be extending their live shows into surround sound and more multimedia experience. As this has become his new passion. He is learning this right now and the Front 242 has a project group working on this. The Front 242 were supposed to show this last spring but it got postponed. In December this year at a gig in Belgium, in Brussels, we will get a room specially for this to walk through and experience the new phenomena of the band before we get to the concert hall. And then we get the chance to see it once again at Leipzig at the Wave Gotik Treffen in  May 2011.
Am looking forward to this.
Them other bands at this festival
The BodyFest contained also of gigs from No Sleep by the Machine and Stockholm Wrecking Crew, Spark, Autodafeh, Tyske Ludder and Pouppée Fabrikk. In the foaje we got DJ Insomnia (André Kiers) and in the concert hall Anders Karlsson från The Pain Machinery to keep us up with the beat in them pauses between the bands and them we choose to take for a break.

The drummer of SPARK was cute in his kilt. And so energetic. Their songs surprised me a bit. Sounded like pop with EBM rythms to me. The shaped the BODY scene, I have been told by the Bodyfest festival general himself. Photo: NineIZ

Tyske Ludder did a great show. They made me feel like back in the 90's gothic synthtechnomusic parties again and missing my long black leather coat a lots, but they looked a bit like GI Joe and Rambo. Maybe that was the intention since they surely made deal with the german bad concious about second world war by showing the terror USA and other countries practice of today to others in the world in  filmstrips, photos and songs. It was a cruel show. It sureley rocked. Photo: NineIZ

Autodafeh experimented a bit in the middle with Goth but returned to  their roots in the end. Photo: NineIZ

Curiosity: The Testikelbrand himself (No Sleep by the Machine) was organizing Bodyfest with his friends. He was in orange. Testikelbrand is swedish for Burning Fire in them testicles.
Testikelbrand Photo: NineIZ
He writes wonderful lyrics btw. Check out his websites. He told me the new song Yellow Mica and the old song Old Track was the ones the audience really loved in  their set.
He got a normal name too: Jens Plesner but writes under his name Testikelbrand.

Some soundclips from YouTube with the courtesy of the film maker and the bands;

If you  look in the YouTube for a video called Bodyruset you will see Stockholm Body Audience warm up a few weeks before Bodyfest with a little run in the park to them tunes of EBM.

DROP DEAD FESTIVAL - So much more then just music

This is artist Elena Brocade in her solo performance "Jinx" at a Drop Dead Festival event.

Elena Brocade is one of them artists that went into training with Aloft
a special training school in Chicago for trapez artists. She now performs all over the world and also take part in movies and was participating in Olympic Games of Hong Kong 2008.
She performed at Drop Dead Festival in Vilnius 2010.

Drop Dead Festival is so much more then just music.

I  will never forget the act of Opera and Rock'n'Roll in  Stockholm performed by Maya de Vesque and Anders Karlsmark (from Commando M Pigg - a swedish punk band)

Drop Dead is gothic, deathrock, performance and so much more.
To me it's a window to the BatCave scene of excellent taste DJ:s.

Next year it is in Berlin. They originally started in New York but travels all around the world.

Polina Yakovleva aka Polina NY Decay
and
Daniel Jones aka DJ Triangle

are the ones behind this all.
They also got a magazine called Drop Dead Magazine
in  which you can follow their adventures if you are not lucky enough to have them on FB.

This is from Portugal event. Snatched from The Official Drop Dead Page on FaceBook.

Craterface

One afternoon I get a phone call from a long lost friend and he drops by my place with this CD. It totally chills me smiling to the ground! It gives me flashbacks to bands like In The Colonnades. The kind of music I have missed for so long! But this little album fixed my abstinence.

Craterface is heavy, cool and mystique still yet so punkish in a way not many can do it... the special sound and feeling is .. special..

They are hard to find on MySpace so keep the link as a bookmark. Secret and mystique. Their record company has got the coolest name. Gravejuice.

Gothic enough for me.
As my friend always were.

I cant wait to see them LIVE with this. Feels like being in a dark rock n roll club when I listen this album!

It's kind of auto production but this is not noticeable. It sounds as if made in a studio.
But my friend tells me it is mostly recorded in a kitchen.

My friend tells me he is in the middle of next production right now.
And this next album will be made in a studio.
I can hardly wait.

My Sunday turned out good!

My abstinence is stilled. Long time missed sounds fills my apartment. And I am feeling great!

Best news this decade^^^^

Its an interesting little list inside the album convolute that maybe gives some clues of this mysterious band with their site in another country and with spanish quota as reference for what inspires them.

Censorship SUCKS - Free ART

 iodine Jupiter
Bookcover that was cencored
by an Erotical Fair General

There is a poet in  Sweden that always manage to  provoke.
His book Dom dödas pornografi (The pornographie of them dead - free translation by  me...) had a cover with a man with a crucifux in his pants zipper. The poster for this one was censored by the Erotic Fair - next to the bookstand of Vertigo very small  females were fucked hard by big dicks on screens.....

This time.. iodine Jupiter made a book concerning Sweden being fucked by USA-freely..... its a satir....
the promovideo obviously upset someone - and they reported it to  YouTube as sex. Its no visiable sex in  this... the imagination makes this due to  the viewers own preferences... the artist is making art....

Well, since this artist got a big portion of humour... he of course responds in cool way to all this.... and is pleased someone got touch enough to react... of course...

He says:
(freely translated by me)

Where is the borderline for you?
The satir where USA is fucking Sweden arosed such joy and cheering at YouTube that they felt it necessary to  censor the long version of F**ck around the clock. Bodyparts painted in flags seems scary.

Explicit nothing is shown. Is this a question about political censorship of this parodie on USA. Or is the erotic phantasie of the censor running wild?

/iodine J
Freely translated by Nine IZ

here the original text from the artist:
VAR GÅR GRÄNSEN FÖR YOU?
Satiren där USA sätter på Sverige väckte sånt jubel att Youtube kände sig nödgade att censurera den långa versionen
av F**k around the clock. Kroppssminkande bakdelar målade som flaggor verkar otäckt.
Explicit visas ingenting. Är det fråga om politisk censur i parodin på USA. Eller den erotiska fantasin
hos censorn som skenat iväg?
/iodine J
Note: the titel of this book mentioned above The pornographie of them dead is a travastie of an very old national hero among swedish authors btw...

ranxid

Today I discovered an artist named ranxid. The song Trains from the album Vawe Effect I like very much.

Trains

The picture at this link is the only one I find of the artist.
Ehm..not entirely true, if you check out the new band of ranxid there is actually a picture in one of them thumbnails for songs on the album.

This band is called "The Devil's Orphans".
At the ranxid website I read "Ranny joined up with Johnny N and DockterE" and the first 7 song CD is done.

Here is a taste of this and a link to their site.

DROP DEAD FESTIVAL - Stockholm went batcave and more for one night

Stockholm went goth for one night a´la Drop Dead festival! It was good music and lots of old rockers came out of their batcaves to breathe again some of the darkness not so often provided these days!

NYC Polina Y and Daniel Triangle from http://www.dropdeadfestival.com

Drop Dead Magazine http://dropdeadmagazine.com  I read their magazine and its cool to see something like this again. Good texts with substance and of interest.

Well, the party....

The girl that makes it happen. Polina Y and the guy that makes it happen together with her, Daniel Triangle.

Moulin Noir went on  stage at midnight sharp. Here is some photos made with not so excellent equipment.

Maya de Vesque and Anders Karlsmark made a goth experiment this evening. She was singing opera aria out from a lyricsbook. Last song was a goodnightsong. The guitarist was moving so quickly and energetic that could not make him stand still in the photo^^

Awesome evening at Sugar Bar.

Wants more?? well, I might make a blog in my Aftonbladet blogg in  swedish. And IF some paper buys the story I tell you where to  read this. ahm.. forgot to mention the darkblooded musiclovers that provided this clubnight for Drop Dead in Stockholm, DJ Avreagera and DJ IGGOF. Well, read the wonderful flyer and you know it all^^ and yes... I missed the first band since didnt arrive till midnight.

Ofer Wolberger’s project Life with Maggie

On the Beach, Pensacola, FL
Photographer Ofer Wolberger

Today I went to see this exhibition from C/O Berlin Life with Maggie by Ofer Wolberger at the Goethe Institute of Stockholm, and I read the interview made by Jennifer Crowley – or rather part of this – from the book Talents 17 - Life with Maggie.

It seems as such an interesting idea, to use this mask of his wife’s properties, that she got from her parents collections of masks once, and let this mask from the 1930-1940´s have its own life in our time.

He is making an avatar of this I think. This is what I do with my avatars in Second Life. Liza loves the 1920`s and she hates all of this new era’s stuff, but she tries to fit in. Just like “Maggie”, as the photographer names the character he is making of the mask to let it become alive again in our time.

I specifically love the scene, the photography, of “Maggie” at the beach. To me she wants to be there and swim like the other guests on the beach – but she doesn’t want to be undressed or dressed in bikini. She makes her own way a bathing suit – a swimming suit- of her nightgown or a short dress. So this way she is on the beach as she used to be in the 1930 or 1940´s maybe. But she at least tries her outmost to fit in, and this she also does.

When you are meeting an environment that isn’t yours, but still is supposed to be, you try to make the best of this situation. I think “Maggie” is excellent in adjusting^^^

Am looking forward to follow Ofer Wolberger in this project. He tells in the book that he want to see “Maggie” grew old. So it will be continued.

It is his wife that supplies “Maggie” with the body that carries the mask of her around and of course she will be elder day by day.

This makes a nice portrait of a couple that works together and definitely plan to be old together too.

If I ever interview them I will have to ask about this.

I saw nothing of the wife in the part of the interview I read from this book, more then the photographer mentioning her as the owner of the mask and as his wife and telling us that she is the model - the person that brings “Maggie” into life by posing her in the situations she is placed within. Her husband does tell us she make an impact in evolving “Maggie” though, since she is part of her, and he does tell us about her by her name, of course, she is Billie. But maybe she is interviewed too in the book, somewhere. I havent read it through yet.

One charming detail is when Ofer Wolberger mention that “Maggie” lives her own life in a way too... as he thinks sometimes “this Maggie would like to have a vacation picture of”... and this way he is givin her a bit freedoom beside his owns wishes for his pictures.

I believe the characters we create - if we let them free.... They will amaze us.
Maybe you got to be an artist yourself to understand this sentence...

Mass Murder Agenda

Mass Murder Agenda at Debaser Slussen STO 25th of March 2010. Great gig! And their PREMIERE GIG!! WOW Such a kick off for them as Mass Murder Agenda!!
Gig last night was AWESOME! The visual of them tv-screens with message picture of brutality in world, them drumbeats eating their way through entire me til me spine making me heart beat fast as hell, The almost theathrical performance - "almost" since the band managed to give it the feeling of danger for real - this made it the strongest experience I had for years - IF Ever.. Impressive!!!!!!!
Also the lightning with the logo glowing in it - cool detail!!!- was such nice add on to the whole perfection^^ ..it was also areally smooth move when they left the stage and all them pictures of film still on.... that empty stage with this gave an yummy afterfeeling of death destruction angst despair. Them 30 minutes of this band were AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had to go home after this. Couldnt take no more music. I was content. Had enough in a good way. Pleasure all through with great feeling as after a really scary movie, kind of cool shocked feeling all through. GREAT!!!!

Mass Murder Agenda http://www.myspace.com/massmurderagenda
contains of Joakim Hedestet (ex Face Down ex Construcdead) Martin Sundberg (ex Sexydeath), Tristan Agdler (ex NIL Machine), Henrik Blomqvist (ex Face Down) and Christoffer Barkensjö (Construcdead, Face Down, Kaamos)

Debaser Slussen is one of them coolest rock clubs in Stockholm, Sweden.
It´s suited at the water next to the channel where ships and boats go through when changes sea, makes me wonder if ppl sometimes fall into this when drunk.. its in the harbour in middle if city.. Small, kind of dirty feeling, with a square outside for people to smoke at..(YEAH - you may bring your drinks outside-its almost as before the smoking prohibition time -) dark walls feeling inside... good athmosphere in a simple way - it´s a rock club area for sure..smoothest place in this town..for me... when listening concerts in Stockholm. You find this at Karl Johans Torg at Slussen just next to Gamla Stan.
